Abstract:

IMD´s World Competitiveness Center, a pioneer in competitiveness since 1989, is pleased to present its 20th edition of the World Competitiveness Yearbook (WCY). In today´s global and changing world, especially during this year´s exceptional economic uncertainty, the WCY upholds its reputation as providing the tools to better understand the challenges facing the global business environment. We are currently witnessing important geopolitical shifts that are bringing about significant change in the world´s center of gravity. Thus, the WCY provides a framework for comprehending how competitiveness is evolving. 

The WCY 2008 and WCY Online represent an incomparable source of knoeledge on competitiveness that consists of the most comprehensive database, accumulated over two decades, to analyze the competitiveness of 55 economies on the basis of over 300 criteria. One of the unique characteristics of the WCY methodology is its objective assessment of competitiveness, focusing primarily on hard, quantifiable statistics that represent 2/3 of the WCY Overall Ranking. These statistics are then complemented by opinion survey data that show present and future perceptions of competitiveness issues that are not easily measurable.

IMD is highly indebted to its 52 Partner Institutes around the world for their invaluable collaboration, helping to ensure that our data is as reliable and up-to-date as possible. This unique network has been built up over the past 20 years and has proved to be an inestimable source of information and knowledge exchange.
